Meet the Old Man of the Sea

The horseshoe crab!

These critters have been roaming the sea floors, virtually unchanged, since before the time of the dinosaurs! Truly earning them the title of “living fossil”.

There are four different species alive today but despite their name, they are actually more closely related to spiders and scorpions than crabs.

Horseshoe crabs have ten eyes. The two largest and most developed are compound eyes, which aid them in finding a mate.

In the end of spring, hundreds of thousands will storm the coasts during high tide of a new or full moon to breed and nest.
