Just Keep Swimming!

The Little Brown Skink, like many skink species, has very reduced limbs allowing them to quickly “swim” through the dense leaf litter and soil of their habitat.

These lizards have smooth and shiny scales that are underlain with a mosaic of small bony deposits, providing a shell of armor all the way around the skink.

Most females solitarily lay 2-3 eggs in the moist leaf litter. However, in coastal marsh habitats females have been documented to nest communally inside of alligator nests laying over 900 eggs!
