Let the monkey business begin, it’s international monkey day!!
(1) L’Hoest’s monkey, of eastern Africa, lives in groups of 10-17 females and 1 male who constantly has to fight off rival males trying to displace him. Sadly, their populations are in decline from deforestation & bushmeat hunting and they are listed as a vulnerable species. (2) Long-tailed macaques are opportunistic omnivores foraging for anything from fish, fruit, leaves, birds and reptiles. In some places of SE Asia they swim quite well, diving for crustaceans in the mangroves. (3) Yellow Baboons live in the savannah and bushland of central Africa. They have an average troop size of 39 individuals, but some baboon species have troops as high as 300! Studies show baboons can use up to 30 different calls to communicate with one another.
