Gentle Giants

Mountain Gorillas, despite being one of the largest primates, seldom exhibit their immense strength.

They are in fact rather gentle animals, living in highly social groups of 4-30 females & juveniles and one adult male known as the ‘silverback’.

They prefer to spend their days lounging about eating their favorite roots, shoots, fruits and leaves and can consume up to 75lbs of vegetation a day!

In the wild there are ~1000 left, inhabiting the lush mountain forests of Africa at 8000-13000ft. Their thick fur distinguishes them from other gorilla species and keeps them warm at such high altitudes.

Big thanks to the Gumins brothers for the awesome pics; follow them @naturewaysadventures on instagram for more worldwide photography!
