The roan antelope is one of the largest antelope species, weighing in at around 500-650lbs—but this doesn’t stop them from galloping up to 35mph!
As grazers, they play an important role in nutrient cycling of the African savannah. Herds consist of 5-20 females (& their young) and one adult male that fiercely patrols the radius of the herd, occasionally fighting off rivals. Roan antelope are formidable adversaries and can even fend off adult lion’s using their long curved horns. #wildlifephotography #africa #antelope #worthmorealive #sciencecommunication #africanamazing #worthmorealive #animals #willife #wildlifeeducation
