Commissioned piece in honor of the Laysan Albatross that nest around Honu Point Vacation Rental in Hawaii! The Laysan albatross has an impressive 6ft wingspan and can cover ~350 miles in a day, taking short naps while in flight! Sadly, albatrosses often consume bottle caps, beads, pens etc. floating in the ocean. Mistaking plastic for food, they then feed these items to their chicks. The chicks either choke or starve with a stomach full of plastic. This is common in many species, and it is estimated that 90% of ALL seabirds have ingested some form of plastic.
In addition to raising awareness for the plight of seabirds, 30% of proceeds go directly to seabird conservation through the Pacific Seabird Group. Learn more about their work with seabirds by clicking the link below:
